Why is Bird said to be Jordan's nemesis?
2023/10/26

Regular season: Jordan and Bird faced off a total of 28 times, with Bird winning 17 games and Jordan winning 11. Bird averaged 26.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists, with a field goal percentage of 49.8%. Jordan averaged 33.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.8 assists, with a field goal percentage of 50.6%.

Playoffs: Jordan and Bird faced each other 6 times, with Jordan losing all 6 games. Bird averaged 27.2 points, 9 rebounds, and 8.5 assists, with a field goal percentage of 53.1%. Jordan averaged 39.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.8 assists, with a field goal percentage of 46.4%.

Overall, Jordan had better statistics, but Bird had better team results. As the NBA's greatest of all time, Jordan dominated an era and defeated players like Malone, Stockton, and Ewing, but only one person remained a constant thorn in his side - Larry Bird.

Jordan never defeated Bird in the playoffs, not even once. However, Bird and Jordan were not true contemporaries as their prime years did not overlap. During Bird's prime, Jordan had not fully developed yet, so calling Bird Jordan's nemesis is questionable.
