Jordan's net assets reached $3 billion

Michael Jordan, the legendary basketball player, has become the first professional athlete to make it onto the Forbes 400 list of richest Americans after successfully selling a majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets. His net worth now stands at $3 billion.

Jordan earned $94 million during his 16-year NBA career, making him the highest-paid player in the league in 1997 and 1998. Additionally, he made around $2.4 billion (pre-tax) through endorsements with major brands, with the majority coming from Nike.

Last year, he earned $260 million from Nike alone. To enter the Forbes 400 list, Jordan relied heavily on the sale of the majority stake in the Hornets.

In August of this year, he sold most of the team for a staggering $3 billion. The Hornets were valued at $1.7 billion in 2022, ranking 27th in the league. This resulted in the team being sold at nearly 17 times the price Jordan acquired it for in 2010. With his current net worth, Jordan has become the wealthiest professional athlete.
